A Stormy Day

A stormy day

By Freya Anastasia Hatfield

A storm is brewing they say, the clouds are rolling in,

the sky’s getting darker, it’s the middle of the day, yet looks as dark as night

energy is building, little flashes appear every once in a while,

not enough for the clouds to erupt, not yet at least.

Nearby water turns the same colour as the sky above,

it once was a tranquil blue, it’s now a dark green turning dark grey.

Waves grow bigger the white horses become prominent.

The wind changes, the tide too has changed, it was calm now its raging

the sky too will soon join in, once this storm is in full blow.

The tree now start to rustle, birds fleeing for protection, they feel the storm

leaves start falling, small and weak branches too, this will be all that’s left once it ends,

the sound is growing, birds chirping, trees rustling, the sound of the sea getting stronger

the sky begins to rumble, the sound of thunder on its way, some say its the greek gods fighting, some say it’s the Gods moving furniture, others say it’s science.

Now the storm is here, the sky lights up, a combination of fork and sheet lightning

dazzles the sky, the light display is like no other, the crack almost shatters glass,

thunder now in full rumble overhead, it’s right on top of us,

it’s loud deafening even, the rain has come too, hailstones bounce, like balls

this is the music the earth creates, it doesn’t last for long half an hour or so, and it’s over.

The sky clears, the ocean calm once again, trees stop moving, birds return home

this is nature, this is a storm it doesn’t last, it leaves its footprint,

fallen trees, huge branches, leaves the size of a dinner plate, the clean up takes longer

it’s worth it for what was witnessed, it’s worth it for the much-needed water,

it relieves the tension that had been in the air. it’s calm for now,

there will be another one they say, hamper down they say this is storm season.

Winters Calling

 Winters Calling

By Freya Anastasia Hatfield

The wind is howling, its blast is icy

cold daggers hit with a winter chill.

It’s dark mornings and cold nights

they creep in so silent yet have a sharp bite

this is the winter calling and the endless nights.

The moon is bright, the night sky is crisp,

the only lights needed, are thousands of miles away

twinkling shining stars, scattered throughout the night sky.

Trees blow in a gentle night breeze now that the night dwellers have left,

the water is calm as it’s inhabitants sleep beneath the unbroken surface.

snow settles for some, and others it’s a mere dream that never comes,

rainfalls for most, some places it floods some it’s a thankful reprieve.

the sun still shines, but the air is crisper and colder than in its sister months

this is the winter calling and the biter months to come.

Trees lose their leaves, the branches standing bare

birds that ones housed there escape migrating to a warmer climate.

Branches cover with frost, turning into glass as they glisten in the suns rays.

Leaves turn red and brown as they lay on the ground,

they turn crisp in the winter air, they crunch beneath unsuspecting feet.

It only lasts for three months a year, yet can feel so much longer.

Animals hibernate, some are more awake,

it makes us wrap up warm, it’s more cozy days indoors.

Movie days, game days, more days spent inside as the bitterness thrives

it’s icy, it’s chilly, it cuts through your clothes,

this is the winter calling.

Calming of The Ocean part 4

It was another cold Cornish winter morning when she hit the sea again this time taking her dark man with her, he too hadn’t been able to sleep that night, that was when she said. “Hey, let’s take a dip.” Her think Cornish accent filled the silent room it reverberating off of the white blank walls. He thought her crazy but followed her down to the beach watching her take off her dressing gown before he did the same, embracing the cold four thirty am air, that whipped around his bare skin. With the only clothing that covered his body being his tight swimming shorts, they were no match for the icy blast he was anticipating from the calm water he was slowly walking into.
She’d already dived down into the dark water that was lit by the remaining light from the moon before it gave way to the sun.

He, however, was a little more hesitant, the water lapped up to him almost as if to whisper. “Come in.” It took him a while, but eventually, he let himself go, the coldness numbing his body. She came over to him fully submerging him as she too went under, this she knew was the only way he would fully accept this early morning dip.
He came up gasping for air, the shock hit his body, but he relaxed the shock leaving almost as quickly as it had hit him. “Jeez.” He let out a sigh of relief when he saw his porcelain girl treading water in front of him beaming as she watched this man in front of her who physically was the strongest person she knew but seeing him in this body of water where she had become stronger than he was her body flooded with devilishness.

He managed to calm his body down and embraced his girl in a bear hug. his deep voice vibrated through the cold water on her body. “Let’s get out of here, escape today, let's live and feel the rising sun on our skin and the warmth that it brings, let's live today for the moments, the magic, and mysteries yet to be made.”

(author note) This is going to be the last part of this short story I hope you have enjoyed reading Calming of The Ocean, I may in time add more to it but for now, that is it for these characters. This was a completely new way of writing for me with the characters not having names, it's been challenging but its been a good trest and good to get out of my writing style comfort zone of having to give characters names. As always thank you for reading see you back here next week with another blog post

Love always Thinking out Loud xx:D
