Queen Elizabeth II

If you would like to listen to any music whilst reading this poem, I recommend you listen to an instrumental version of the British national anthem

Queen Elizabeth II

By Freya A Hatfield

In the beginning, she was standing with her strength and stay,

During her reign, he stood strong by her side, ever so slightly a step behind.

Together they watched their children grow,

Guided their country and commonwealth through happy and trying times.

Like most families, they had their hard times,

together they stayed strong and did what was best,

even if it meant criticism from media prying eyes.

As the final months of her reign came to fruition,

With the passing of her beloved strength and stay,

becoming one of the longest reigning monarchs of 70 years and even battling health issues,

her family stepped up and took on more duties.

This, sadly, wasn’t enough to keep her going.

At 96, some might say she didn’t do bad.

She’s at peace now; her eyes closed, her soul is safe.

He came and took her by the hand.

Her family watched on, tears in their eyes,

Like her, they knew it was her time to go,

As hard as it was to let her go,

They knew she needed to be with her strength and stay once again.

As a nation, commonwealth and on looking countries,

We are once again united, we stand together, and we mourn together,

For the loss of a constant being in all of our lives,

The loss of the head of state,

And the loss of an inspiring and remarkable,

Daughter,

Sister,

Mother,

Aunt,

Great grandmother,

Friend,

And for most, she is more notably known as

Queen Elizabeth II

Reigning from 1952-2022

May she now rest in peace with her beloved strength and stay, Prince Philip.
