2020

2020

By Freya Anastasia Hatfield

2020 a year full of change

2020 if you aren’t 420 friendly and getting high

you apparently can’t be having a good time

2020 the year of only being able to meet people on dating apps

2020 the year when saying we’ll meet up, and it never happening

and having a reason for it not happening

2020 a year when not caring what you look like doesn’t matter,

no one will see you anyway

2020 virtual meetings, virtual family and friend get-togethers

2020 filling your lungs with liquid

2020 cleaning the air around us

2020 killing us slowly

2020 protecting animals and the environment

2020 fixing what humans broke

2020 a year where the earth has to protect its self first

2020 black lives matter

2020 only halfway through the year and it already feels like its the end

2020 innocent policemen and women being killed

2020 innocent children being gassed

2020 another year and we  still haven’t learnt from history

2020 animals being seen in places they haven’t before

2020 everything has been cancelled

2020 the year we learnt which countries could help save each other

and which only thought about themselves

2020 another year of ignorance is bliss unless it’s happening to you

2020 another year of it’ll be right until it isn’t

2020 awake up call that is still being ignored

2020 a year where plans get rearranged with no new date set

2020 a year with no end in sight

2020 a year that feels like some kind of nightmare

or horror film we’ve all laughed at that we believed wouldn’t happen

2020 countries borders closed, no travelling unless it’s essential

2020 only cards can be used no physical money allowed

2020 anything that isn’t politically correct is deleted

2020 you have to watch what you say

2020 every generation getting blamed

2020 every generation saying they are the ones who have had it worst

2020 learning history that people want to rewrite

2020 the past can’t be changed

2020 statues being brought down because they don’t fit the present

2020 statues that stood for the past a reminder of what not to be

2020 let’s learn to be kinder, let’s learn from our history and the statues of what not to be

2020 and we are still acting like its, 19, 18, 17, 1620

When will we learn that everything we do needs to change?

It won’t be before the end of 2020.
