24th May (Granddads day)

24th May (Granddads day)
by Freya Anastasia Hatfield

We celebrate your life,
We celebrate your day.
The 24th of May
is known as granddads day.

We are no longer able to see you,
but we will always be able to feel you.
We are no longer able to hug you
but when we think of you, it's those
hugs we used to have that keep us from being sad.
We are no longer able to talk
but our memories fill the silence
as if you were still here listening to everything we say.

Granddad although we miss you every day,
we know time will pass,
and people will say
It gets better just take it day by day.
I don't know if they're right
but I do know this,
we celebrate your life
and for me that makes it easier,
knowing the 24th of May is granddad's day.

We saw you smile,
We saw you cry,
that never made you anything less in my eyes.

To me you are always,
the Lawrence grandma called you,
the dad my mum, aunties and uncles looked up to
and the granddad that would always help you,
the person to teach you how to joke, laugh
and of course, to be stubborn even if it wasn't the time to be.

It's the little things that help us through
The pain, the grieve of knowing you won't be there to go home to.
It's the smiles, the laughs and tears we shared,
the put on your Coit, the don't tell your mum.
The laugh you'd make when you knew you'd get in trouble
But you'd be silly anyway.

It's the times we fell, and you'd be there.
The days when we wouldn't want to smile
but we'd see you in your chair and slowly our mouths
Would creep up into a curve with a little smile just for you to share.

The Christmas eve's where you would
crack two walnuts in one hand,
and we'd all be there amazed every year
with how strong our granddad was,
to us you were the strongest person.

You'd lift us up and sit us on your knees,
you'd hold our hands and keep us safe,
you were tall, to me, almost like a tree.
You never failed to make me see the happiness in life,
you taught me what it meant to love,
you taught me what it meant to be
apart of a family.
you showed me how to do things,
you showed me that it's ok to have fun
and get in trouble.

You showed me what being brave and strong
and at times weak meant to be someone to look up to,
to me you're a hero and the best one I know.
Your my grandad and forever will be,
I hope one day we'll meet again
whenever it may be, and where ever it may be,
I hope your still family as I love you a lot.

Happy birthday grandad and may
the 24th of May forever be granddad's day.

Hi there, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just curious
if you get a lot of spam remarks? If so how do you prevent it,
any plugin or anything you can advise? I get so much lately it's driving me crazy so any help is very much
appreciated. Hey would you mind sharing which blog platform you're
using? I'm looking to start my own blog in the near
future but I'm having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and
I'm looking for something completely unique. P.S My apologies for being off-topic
but I had to ask! http://cspan.co.uk

  8. you're welcome, thank you for your kind words. I'm not sure what you are meaning for the end of this poem, if you are talking about the granddads day, for me May 24th is granddads day as it's my granddads birthday, I realise it won't be for everyone but for me that day is his day which is why I in this poem called it granddads day. I hope this helps. Hope you have a good day. Thinking out loud :D
